Current Participants
Jenny Blosser (Harrisonburg, VA / Eastern Mennonite '11) - grew up in Harrisonburg, VA and chose to continue her education at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) where she studied Social Work. While at EMU, Jenny spent a semester abroad studying in Central America, worked at the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at JMU, played varsity volleyball and was active on campus as a member and leader in the social work club. Jenny is working with East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM).
Brett Bridges (Crete, IL / Goshen '11) - is a recent graduate from Goshen College. She grew up in Crete, IL before studying Public Relations at Goshen College. She worked as an Admissions Counselor Intern and Student Ambassador at Goshen and served as a part of the student newspaper, yearbook, Black Student Union and Latino Student Union. She also studied abroad and taught in Jamaica for a semester. She is looking forward to utilizing her PR, marketing, advertising and communication skills in the Pittsburgh nonprofit community. Brett is working with WYEP.
Jake Geyer (Parnell, IA / Goshen '11) - Originally from Parnell, Iowa, Jake Geyer graduated from Goshen College with a major in History and Secondary Education. At Goshen, he spent a semester abroad in Lima, Peru and taught History at Goshen High School. He also worked with Goshen's Intramural Staff. He loves kids and youth and is interested is in education, in teaching, after school programs, coaching and mentoring. Jake is excited to be live with other young people who feel driven by the same passions. Jake is working with the Neighborhood Learning Alliance.
Joey Glick (Pittsburgh, PA / Colorado College '11) - Joey Glick grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, but graduated from Colorado College with a degree in Anthropology. Joey also spent a semester about in Amman, Jordan studying Arabic. He was a part of the Community Engaged Leadership Program, an intern with the Chaplain's Office and the Soldier Family Wellness project at Colorado College. Joey also spent time in New Mexico working with the Post ' 71 Uranium Miner Committee. He has a strong interest in community development organizations, health organizations, geography and community-based research projects. Joey is working with 3 Rivers Connect (3RC).

Hannah Keeney (Phoenix, AZ / Bluffton '11) - Hannah Kenney is a recent graduate of Bluffton University, where she studied English. She worked as a Library Assistant and was a members of the PEACE Club at Bluffton. Hannah spent a semester at Ulster University in Northern Ireland doing Peace and Conflict Resolution. Hannah is passionate about community building and mediation. During her PULSE year, she is interested in working with any number of organizations that work to reconcile different people to one another.

Melanie Newsom (Florissant, MO / Johnson Bible College '11) - From Florissant, MO through Knoxville, TN to Pittsburgh, comes Melanie Newsom, a graduate of Johnson Bible College. Melanie is a Management of Nonprofit Organizations major. She's worked with the Knoxville Mentoring Initiative and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Along with her work experiences, she has served on a number of service trips in the U.S. and Mexico, the longest being a summer internship teaching English in Mexico City. Melanie is working with The Open Door.
Sarah Spicuzza (Bethel Park, PA / Waynesburg '11) - A native of Bethel Park, Sarah is a recent graduate from Waynesburg University with a degree in Communications and Advertising. She participated in the American Studies Program in Washington, DC and studied abroad in Rome, Italy and has interned with the Davide All Group and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. While at Waynesburg University, she played varsity soccer and did public relations for the chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America, student-led radio station WCYJ-FM and University Relations. Sarah looks forward to using her writing, social media, graphic design and event planning skills this year. Sarah is working with Serving Leaders.
Katy Stemler (St. Paul, MN / Bethel '11) - Originally from St. Paul, MN, Katy Stemler graduated from Bethel University in Minnesota as a Social Work Major. Katy participated in study abroad programs in Uganda and Greece/Turkey and also volunteered in Somali with World Relief. She's worked as a caseworker with refugees, with youth at the Boys and Girls Club, as a hygienist at the Off-Tu Mission in Uganda and with seniors at the Eastside Neighborhood Services. Katy loves kids and is looking forward to working with refugees in Pittsburgh. Katy is working with The Northern Area Companies.
Joel Wildermuth (Sidney, OH / Bluffton '11) - grew up in Sidney, OH and chose to continue his education at Bluffton University where he studied History. While at Bluffton, Joel served as Student Senate President and as a Research/Department Assistant in History Department. He also was a Chapel Worship Team Coordinator and a member of Shining Through. Joel spent a month in Israel/Palestine studying culture and conflict. While in Pittsburgh, he is interested in working with the church, with a history organization doing research or with any organization committed to helping the oppressed. Joel is working with Pittsburgh Mennonite Church.
Liz Wolensky (Emmaus, PA / Haverford '11) - is a recent graduate of Haverford College. She grew up Emmaus, PA before studying East Asian Studies at Haverford College. She worked in the Office of Institutional Advancement at Haverford as a Phonathon Caller and Manager and Student Office Assistant. She also served with The Amity Foundation in China. Liz is working with the Neighborhood Legal Services Association.
Kyle Yeversky (Bemus Point, NY / University of Pittsburgh '09) - Originally from Bemus Point, NY, Kyle Yeversky graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009 with a degree in Psychology. At Pitt, he worked as a Tour Guide for the Nationality Rooms and served as a Research Assistant for UPMC. Last year, he was a part of the Pittsburgh Health Corps serving as the Food Pantry Coordinator for the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force. Kyle is working with Ten Thousand Villages.
Jakob zumFelde (Goshen, IN / Eastern Mennonite University '11) - grew up in Goshen, IN and graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a degree in Environmental Science and Chemistry. Jakob worked for the New Community Project in Harrisonburg and also with Peace for Creation, EMU's Quality Enhancement Plan. He has served on a number of environmental groups at EMU from the Earthkeepers to the Sustainable Food Initiative. He spent a semester abroad in New Zealand as well. Jakob is interested urban planning, community development and projects that involve sustainability. He is working with the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation.
Second Year Participants
Maggie Graham (Greensburg, PA / Waynesburg '10) - Maggie Graham is a graduate of Waynesburg University, where she studied Communication and Social Sciences. She received a scholarship to study literature and photography at the University of Westminster in London and served as a Bonner Scholar, Resident Assistant and Student Ambassador for Waynesburg University. Maggie is passionate about Pittsburgh. During her PULSE year, she worked with East Liberty Development, Inc (ELDI) as their Communications Coordinator. She is continuing to work with ELDI this year.
Anna Pawsey (Clyde, OH / Bluffton ' 10) - Anna Pawsey grew up in Clyde, OH and graduated from Bluffton University with a degree in Social Work. Anna spent a semester at Ulster University in Northern Ireland doing Peace and Conflict Resolution. She also interned for the Department of Community Development in Lima, OH and Children in Crossfire in Northern Ireland. She is very passionate about issues dealing with social justice, community development, nonviolence and peace. Anna was the Space Rental Coordinator for the Union Project. During her PULSE year, she worked with Union Project. She is currently volunteering for a second year with PULSE as its Operations Coordinator. |
